Historic Places & Famous Faces Tour

day one

9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Begin your history lesson with a tour of the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum.  Learn about key players in American history: Tecumseh, the Prophet and William Henry Harrison.

10:15 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.

Journey back to the 1920s for a filling lunch on the farm at Historic Prophetstown.  Take a horse-drawn trolley ride through the prairie or relax on the front porch after lunch. 

1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Shop in historic downtown Lafayette.

2:15 to 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy a guided driving tour of downtown Lafayette, Purdue University and Historic Ninth Street Hill.  Stop at the Red Crown Mini Auto Museum for time to reminisce about days when gas prices were much cheaper and life was much slower.

4:15 to 5:30 p.m. 

Rest and relax at your Tippecanoe County hotel.

6:00 to 8:30 p.m. 

Experience a ride on a replica canal boat, learn about the longest canal in the US and enjoy a catered meal at the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center. 

day two

9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Be sure to behave at the Old Jail Museum in Crawfordsville, featuring the world's only operating rotary cell block constructed in 1882 and listed on the National Register

10:45 a.m. to Noon

Let inspiration overtake you at the General Lew Wallace Study & Museum.  Lew Wallace author of Ben-Hur often wrote his literary works on the grounds of the study.  View numerous items collected by Wallace during his life as an author, soldier, statesman, artist, violinist and inventor.  You’ll be amazed! 

Noon to 2:30 p.m.

Lunch on your own in downtown Crawfordsville or group dining can be arranged.  Afterwards, spend time shopping in the antique malls or take a self-guided tour of the historic district.

2:45 to 5:00 p.m.

Tour Lane Place, a historic antebellum home and Wabash College, a private, all-male, liberal arts college with an immaculate campus.

5:45 to 9:30 p.m. 

Feast on a wonderful meal at the Myers Dinner Theater and then sit back and enjoy the current production.

Arrive at the Lafayette – West Lafayette Visitors Bureau to pick up step-on guide.

10:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.

Learn more about the farm animals and the inner workings of farm life as you tour Historic Prophetstown. Enjoy a horse-drawn trolley ride through the Indiana prairie or relax on the front porch of the 1920s Sears & Roebuck replica home after a hearty lunch.

12:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Enjoy a guided driving tour of downtown Lafayette and Purdue University. We’ll spend some time shopping in the downtown so you can explore our art galleries, antique shops and specialty shops. Or simply people watch as you enjoy an afternoon refreshment from one of our coffee shops, candy shops or eateries in the downtown.

3:45 to 5:00 p.m.

Check-in, rest and relax at your Tippecanoe County hotel.

5:30 to 8:30 p.m. 

Delight over a delicious dinner prepared for your group at a local restaurant and then howl with the wolves at Wolf Park before retiring for the evening.

day two

9:00 a.m.

Tour Clay Critters magnet factory. Pick out a special critter to take home with you.

11:15 a.m.

Explore a modern day dairy farm and tour the massive milking operation at Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure. Sample their award winning cheeses or go directly to dessert and enjoy their farm fresh ice cream.

Depart for home in the afternoon.
